Enterprise Scaling and SIP Trunk Consolidation

AudioCodes announces high-capacity SBC for Enterprise SIP Trunking

By Alan Percy, Senior Director of Marketing, AudioCodes

Large global enterprises have made it clear that SIP is part of their future.  The challenge for them is making the migration.  With complex multi-site networks, an array of telecommunications suppliers, lengthy contracts and network infrastructure, things don’t happen overnight.

However, one thing is clear…the march to SIP Trunking is well underway.  But how?

A common strategy that can significantly reduce operating expenses involves consolidating voice services into a centralized data center (private or cloud), utilizing one or more SIP Trunking service providers to provide domestic and international calling along with direct-inward-dial (DID) telephone numbers.  For most organizations, this replaces separate telephone service that previously connected each remote office to their local service provider.  Typically done over time, the pace of migration depends on the length of the various service provider contracts and the cost advantage of the consolidation.

Supporting this strategy, AudioCodes this week announced a newer high-capacity Session Border Controller in the Mediant 9000.  Supporting upwards of 16,000 sessions, the Mediant 9000 is available in a ready-to-install appliance form factor, as software that can operate on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) servers, or as software for virtualized environments.

AudioCodes Mediant 9000 SBCActing as a point of demarcation between an enterprise network and SIP trunking service providers, Session Border Controllers perform SIP mediation, security and network quality monitoring. Compatible with Microsoft Lync, Genesys SIP Server and many other software applications, the Mediant 9000 leverages the numerous certifications and interoperability validations previously secured by AudioCodes.

As noted by Diane Myers, Principal Analyst, Infonetics Research:  “The introduction of AudioCodes’ latest SBC, with its significantly increased capacity, greatly enhances the company’s market reach.  “While in the past AudioCodes’ SBCs were successful in the mid-market with remote braches of large enterprises, this move definitely opens the door for the company to sell to datacenters of the largest companies.  The fact that AudioCodes delivers a centrally managed and uniform SBC functionality across the portfolio from the smallest of branches to the largest of data centers represents a competitive value proposition in the market.”
